第60回メーデー 1989年5月１日
記念すべき第60回メーデーは、政党を従来の特別加盟団体扱いから友好団体扱いとするなど運営要綱をめぐり、連合・総評系と統一労組懇系との対立から1952年以来の38年ぶりの分裂メーデーになった。
東京都渋谷区の代々木公園で開催された連合・総評系の集会後、デモ行進は社会党の土井たか子党首等が先頭に立ち行われた。
この年、11月9日にベルリンの壁が崩壊し、その後ソビエト連邦も分裂消滅。ルーマニアのチャウシェスク政権も市民革命により崩壊、チェコスロバキア分裂など東欧を中心とした社会主義国の変革が続いた。
