"KAMAMESHI" Yokowaka-St.1997

峠の釜めし&EF630形電気機関車　信越本線横川駅 1997年9月18日 

　

JR信越本線の横川駅は標高９６０ｍの碓氷峠を越えるために、力の強い電気機関車（EF630形電気機関車）を連結する為の駅。横川駅で連結する「峠のシェルパ」と呼ばれた電気機関車は、以前はアブト式ラックレールのED42形がその役目を果たしていたが、今は、EF630形が活躍しており、その連結の模様を見ることが出来る。

そして、この横川駅では、もう一つの楽しみがあった。この連結に要する停車時間を利用して販売する、名物駅弁「峠の釜めし」と「力餅」、特に「釜めし」は、列車の停車と同時に買い求めるお客さんで賑わう。しかしながら、長野新幹線が10月１日から開通するに伴って、横川〜軽井沢間は廃線となり、横川駅はローカルな終着駅となる。

明治時代からの碓氷峠越えの歴史もそして電気機関車を連結する作業もその間を利用した駅弁「峠の釜めし」販売も姿を消してしまう。そう、ローカルな終着駅を利用するのは地元の人だけになってしまうからだ。長野オリンピックの為の新幹線？
速さと便利さを引換に峠越えの技術と歴史、そして車窓からの風景、さらに駅弁売りの風景をも奪ってしまう。

私は、横川駅に一日中いて「峠の釜めし」を食べ、二度と見ることの出来ない、最後の駅弁売りとシェルパEF630形電気機関車の連結の模様をカメラに収めた。（記；1997年9月30日）

I work on I connect a strong EF630 form electric locomotive of the power to go over the Usui mountain pass of meters above the sea level 960m at Yokokawa Station of the JR Shinetsu main line.

During stoppage time to need it for the connection of the electric locomotive, a noted product station lunch sells "the pot meal of the mountain pass" and "energy supplying mochi". The home is considerably full of visitors buying "the pot meal of the mountain pass" with the stop of the train.

However, if the New Nagano Line starts on October 1, 1997, I take you, and, in Yokokawa Station - Karuizawa station interval, it is it with an abolished line, and, in Yokokawa station, it is it in the terminal of the local line.

As for the work and the sale of the station lunch "pot meal of the mountain pass" which took advantage of the meantime to connect the history of the Usui mountain pass from the Meiji era, an electric locomotive disappear. Because the reason why I use the local terminal is that I become only a local person.
