2001年１２月２２日に発生した、九州南西海域工作船事件にかかる工作船及び回収物などを海上保安資料館横浜館で展示している。
　この事件は、海上保安庁が九州南西海域で航行する不審船情報を防衛庁から入手し、直ちに巡視船・航空機を急行させ不審船を補足すべく追尾を始めた。
　不審船は度重なる停船命令を無視し逃走を続けた為、射撃警告後、20ミリ機関砲による上空・海面への威嚇射撃、威嚇のための船体射撃を行った。
　しかしながら不審船は逃走しながら自動小銃・ロケットランチャーによる攻撃を行った為、巡視船「あまみ」による正当防衛射撃を実施した。　不審船は自爆用爆発物とおもわれる爆発を起こし沈没した。この際、海上保安官３名が負傷した。
　海上保安庁では事件の全容解明の為、水深９０ｍの海底から不審船を引き揚げ、船体及び証拠物を展示している。

On December 22, 2001, unrecognized vessels and recovered items from unidentified ship incidents in the Kyushu Southwest area were exhibited at the Yokohama Museum of Maritime Security Materials.
In this incident, the Japan Coast Guard acquired information on suspicious vessels navigating in the southwestern coast of Kyushu from the Defense Agency, and immediately started to pursue a patrol boat / aircraft and complement the suspicious ship.
