大津島　人間魚雷「回天」訓練基地

　山口県周南市大津島の人間魚雷「回天」訓練基地全国に四か所あった訓練基地のうち最初に建設され、当時の施設が現在も残っている唯一の施設である。

　訓練基地の前身は、1937年に開設された呉海軍工廠の魚雷発射試験施設で、当時日本海軍が世界に誇った高性能魚雷である九三式酸素魚雷の試験が行われていた。
　現存する建物は1939年に魚雷発射試験場として建設されたが、九三式酸素魚雷の推進装置（エンジンなど）を使用した「回天」の訓練基地を1944年9月1日に開設され、9月5日から訓練施設として使用された。

　そして現在、大津小学校のグランドとなっている場所には当時兵舎があり、出撃する隊員は兵舎の東側にあった桟橋から小艇に乗り、沖合に待機する「回天」を搭載する潜水艦に乗り戦地に向かった。
　終戦までに回天搭乗員は1375人、そのほとんどが海軍兵学校生、学徒生、飛行予科練生で20歳に満たない予科訓練生が一番多く1000人を超える。
　1944年11月から終戦まで29回の出撃が記録され、戦没者は106名、戦果の記録は不明。

Oｈzushima Human bomb "Kaiten" practice base 　　I visit on May 10, 2018.

There were four practice bases of a human bomb in Ohzushima, Shunan-shi, Yamaguchi "Kaiten" in the whole country. Facilities in those days are constructed first soon, and they're also the remaining only facilities at present.

93 system oxygen torpedo by which the Sea of Japan an army is a high-performance torpedo which takes pride in the world when records in a practice base were torpedo launch test facilities in an established Kure dockyard in 1937, was tested.

A building which exists was constructed as a torpedo launch examination room in 1939, but 93 systems of promotion equipment of an oxygen torpedo (engine) was used. A practice base of "Kaiten" was established on September 1, 1944 and was used as a training facilities from September 5.

There was a barracks at the place which becomes a ground in Ohzu elementary school then at present, and the member who sallies got on a small boat from the pier which was on the east side of the barracks, took the submarine which loads "Kaiten" which stands by into an offing and went to the front.

Most was filled with naval academy draft beer, a college student and a flight training soldier for 20 years old for a Kaiten crew by the end of the war 1375 people, the soldier who doesn't have exceeds 1000 people most.
29 times of sally is recorded from November, 1944 to the end of the war, and 106 people and the record of a military gain are unclear for the war dead.

＜訪問記＞
　魚雷の推進装置を使用した、全長14.5ⅿ　直径約1m　先端に1.55トンの爆薬を積んで人間が操縦して敵艦に体当たり攻撃をする特攻兵器「人間魚雷　回天」。
　何とも凄まじい殺人兵器なのか、記念館で再現された操縦席は凄く狭い。これに乗り込む勇気とためらいは想像を絶する。魚雷に乗り込み、自分でハッチを閉める。一度発進すると水圧で中から開かない。

戦時中の世相、教育からか、今の平和な時代からは想像もつかない。兵士たちは何を思い、何を考えて、自らの死に場所を選んだのか…。祖国の為か、愛する人の為か、それも時代がそうさせたのか、次世代を担う若者たちが何故そうしたのか？　戦争は大義名分で始まり、どちらかが壊滅するまで終わらないし、終わらせない。

　現代も、きな臭い状況が続く世界。宗教対立、貿易制裁、そして自爆テロは正に特攻兵器だ。我々は何故繰り返すのか…。　繰り返してはならないのが、戦争で死んだ兵士たちの願望ではないのか。
　青く澄んだ空と海を眺めながらそんなことを思った。

I cannot imagine from the wartime society, education or now peaceful times.
What are the soldiers thinking, thinking and choosing their own place of death...?

Why did the young people who are responsible for the next generations do it for the homeland or for the loved one, and that even the times did so? War begins with justice, it will not end until either one is destroyed and cannot end.

Even now, the dangerous situation continues in the world.
Religious conflict, trade sanctions, and suicide terrorism are just special weapons. Why do we repeat the same thing? Is not it a desire of the soldiers who died in the war that should not repeat? I thought such a thing while looking at the clear blue sky and the sea.
