「偕行社」とは明治10年（1877年）に創立された陸軍将校の親睦及び学術研究を目的とする団体の名称です。
　この偕行社が社交場として建設した建物にもその名が用いられたため、偕行社という名の建物は代表的な師団が開設された場所、つまり全国的に存在していましたが、現存するものはとても少なくなっている。
　明治29年（1896年）善通寺町に開設された第十一師団は、日清戦争後の陸軍拡張期に増設された6師団のうちの一つで、「旧善通寺偕行社」は、第十一師団の将校たちによって明治36年（1903年）5月10日に竣工しました。現在、旧善通寺偕行社に隣接する附属棟には「偕行社かふぇ」があり、ゆったりとした雰囲気の空間で重要文化財を眺めながらくつろげるカフェになっている。

"Kaik?sha" is the name of an organization founded in 1877 for the purpose of socializing and academic research among army officers.
The name was also used for the building constructed by the Kaik?sha as a social gathering place, so buildings named Kaik?sha existed in locations where major divisions were established, that is, all over the country, but there are very few remaining.
The 11th Division, which opened in Zentsuji-cho in 1896, was one of six divisions added during the period of expansion of the army after the Sino-Japanese War, and the "Former Zentsuji Kaik?sha" was completed on May 10, 1903, by officers of the 11th Division.
Currently, the "Kaik?sha Cafe" is located in the annex adjacent to the former Zentsuji Kaik?sha, and is a cafe with a relaxed atmosphere where you can relax while looking at the Important Cultural Property.
