1961年の壁建設による東西ベルリンの分断後、1894年に建てられた歴史ある教会は立入禁止地域に属していたため、往来できなくなり、1965年、行き所を失った教会の信者のために、新たな集会所が、ベルナウアー通りに建てられた。そして1985年、立入禁止区域にあった教会は、破壊された。

その4年後の1989年に壁が崩壊してから６年後の1995年、「壁地域の地所」は礼拝堂に使用するという条件で教会に返却され、昔の教会の鐘と祭壇が幸運にも無事に残り、鐘は元の場所で使用され、祭壇も新礼拝堂に設置された。

「壁を越えようとして命をなくす人、壁沿いのアパートの窓から西へと飛び降り命をなくす人が大勢いて、ここの壁は”death strip”といわれました。そんな状況を無人地帯に放り込まれ誰も訪れることがなくなった教会は見つめ続け、最後には破壊されてしまった。」そんなエピソードを持つ教会である。

After the 1961 wall construction of east and west Berlin, the historic church, built in 1894, belonged to an off-limits area, so a new meeting house was built on Bernauer Street in 1965 for the believers of the church, which had lost its place.And in 1985, a church, which was in an off-limits zone, was destroyed.

Four years later, in 1989, six years after the wall collapsed, the Wall Area estate was returned to the church on the condition that it be used for the chapel, the old church bells and altars were fortunately remained safe, the bells were used in their original places, and the altar sat in the new chapel.

"There were a lot of people who tried to cross the wall and lost their lives, and there were a lot of people who jumped west from the window of the apartment along the wall and lost their lives, and the walls here were called "death strip".

The church which was thrown into the uninhabited zone and no one visited continued staring at such a situation, and it was destroyed in the end. It is a church with such an episode.
