　旧東ドイツ（ドイツ民主共和国）領内の陸の孤島「西ベルリン」を取り囲むコンクリート製の高さ4メートル、長さ165キロメートルのコンクリート製の壁は、ベルリン経由で西側諸国に亡命するのを防ぐために、1961年に突然、東ドイツ政府が構築した。
　東ヨーロッパの開放が進む中、1989年11月9日の夜、共産党の高官が突然、東ドイツの国民は「すぐさま、滞りなく」外国を訪れることができるとテレビ放送で宣言した。
　この放送を見た東ドイツ国民は、東西ベルリンを隔てるボルンホルマー通り（Bornholmer Strasse）の検問所に、夜を通して興奮状態で殺到してきたが、検問所では上司からの明確な指令もなく、完全な混乱状態に陥っていた。そんな中、とっさの判断でゲートを開いたのが、ボルンホルマー通り検問所の副所長を務めていたイエーガー氏だった。そして、東ドイツの国民は、厳しい寒さの中、西ベルリンへとなだれ込んだ。冷戦のシンボルであり、28年間にわたってベルリンを分断していた「鉄のカーテン」は、こうして平和裏に打ち倒された。　東西ドイツが統一される前の1990年3月のベルリンを撮影した記録。まだブランデンブルグ門での検問はあり、東ベルリンに入る時は強制的に50東ドイツマルクに両替させられた。
　壁の裏側は、いたずら書きは無く真っ白な壁が広がっていた。150メートルぐらいの空間があり、東ベルリン側にもう1つの壁があり二重になっていた。勿論、イーストサイドギャラリーは無い。
　壊された壁の割れ目から自由に出入りが出来たが、東ドイツの警備隊の車が寄ってきて「ダメ」の合図、少し前だったら、射殺されていただろう。突然、簡単に崩壊した東西冷戦の象徴だったベルリンの壁は、何だったのだろうか…。ここで死んだ人たち１３８人は、あまりにも悲しい。

※「ベルリン」：ドイツ連邦共和国の北東部に位置する首都。プロイセン王国・ドイツ帝国・ドイツ共和国・ナチス時代などの首都。第二次大戦後の1948年東西に分割され、東ベルリンは東ドイツ（ドイツ民主共和国）の首都、西ベルリンは西ドイツ（ドイツ連邦共和国）の一州となったが、90年ドイツの統一により、東西のベルリンも統一された。〔「伯林」とも書く〕

Berlin Wall　
An East Germany government suddenly constructed it in 1961 so that the Berlin Wall might prevent it from defecting to the west nations by way of Berlin with concrete 4 meters in height and 165-meter in length walls in defunct East Germany (Deutsche Demokratische Republik) territory that surrounded West Berlin.It was broken by a citizen, and Berlin Wall has been abolished suddenly on November 9, 1989 by misunderstanding of a border garrison while European opening advanced.
This photograph is a record that took a picture of Berlin on March, 1990 before east and west Germany is united.
In entering in East Berlin, there was an inspection at the Brandenburg gate, and it was madetoexchangemade to exchange for 50 East Germany mark compulsorily when entering a country.On the other side of the Berlin Wall, (East Germany side), there is not a mischief writing and a pure-white wall has extended. There was a space of about 150 meters, it was on the east Berlin side another wall, and it was double.

It was possible to go in and out from the crack of the broken wall freely when I visited. Then, the car of the security force in the East Germany had come near and it was likely to have been shot dead if it was a little before the signal of "No goodness".
